The Gospel
The Good News of Jesus Christ
The Gospel is the good news that God has made a way for sinners to be reconciled to Him through Jesus Christ. It is the message of His grace, the hope of salvation, and the invitation to turn from sin, trust in Christ, and receive new life through Him.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.” – Romans 1:16
Why Do We Need the Gospel?
We were created by God and for God, yet humanity has turned away from Him. Sin has broken our fellowship with our Creator and affected every part of our lives. We cannot overcome sin simply by trying harder, becoming more religious, or trusting in our own goodness. We need God’s grace, forgiveness, and salvation.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23
Sin is more than the wrong things we do. It is a condition of the heart, a turning away from God and a refusal to live under His authority. We may try to cover our sin with good works, religious traditions, morality, or outward appearances, but none of these can remove our guilt before God. Only God can provide the way back to Him.
God Made a Way
God did not leave humanity without hope. Although sin separated us from Him, God Himself provided the way of reconciliation. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to save sinners and bring us back into fellowship with Him. Salvation begins with God’s grace not, with our ability to save ourselves.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16
The Gospel begins with God’s initiative. He loved us before we could respond to Him. He pursued us when we were far from Him and offered mercy when we could not earn it. The answer to our sin is not that we become good enough for God. The answer is that God, in His mercy, has provided a Saviour.
Jesus Christ: The Way to the Father
Jesus Christ is at the centre of the Gospel. He is not merely a teacher, prophet, or example of moral living. He is the Son of God who came into the world to save us from our sins. Through His life, death, and resurrection, God has opened the way for us to be reconciled to Him.
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6
Jesus came to reveal the Father, bear our sin, and accomplish the salvation we could never achieve through our own efforts. He calls us not merely to admire Him, but to trust Him, surrender our lives to Him, and follow Him. The Gospel is ultimately about a Person, Jesus Christ, and salvation is found in Him.
Christ Alone
Salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone.
The Cross and the Empty Tomb
Jesus willingly gave His life for us. Although He was without sin, He took upon Himself the judgement that our sin deserved. At the cross, Jesus offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for sin. He died, was buried, and on the third day He rose again.
“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.” – 1 Corinthians 15:3–4
The cross reveals the seriousness of sin and the depth of God’s love. Jesus did not die because He had failed. He gave His life willingly. And the grave could not hold Him. His resurrection declares that death has been defeated and that Jesus Christ is Lord. Because He lives, those who trust in Him have the hope of forgiveness, new life, and resurrection.
Christ Died
For our sins.
Christ Rose
Defeating death.
Christ Lives
Our hope is in Him.
Saved by Grace Through Faith
Salvation is a gift of God’s grace. We cannot earn it through good works, religious practice, personal achievement, or human effort. God offers forgiveness and new life through Jesus Christ, and we receive His gift through faith. Our hope rests not in what we can accomplish for God, but in what Christ has already accomplished for us.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.” – Ephesians 2:8–9
Faith means trusting in Jesus Christ rather than trusting in ourselves. It means believing who He is, trusting what He has done for us, and placing our lives into His hands. Good works do not purchase salvation, they are the fruit of a life that has been transformed by God’s grace.
Grace Is the Gift. Faith Receives It. Christ Is the Saviour.
How Should We Respond?
The Gospel calls for a response. God invites us to turn from sin, place our trust in Jesus Christ, receive His gift of salvation by grace through faith, and begin a new life of following Him. We do not respond in order to earn salvation, we respond because God has first reached out to us in grace.
Repent
Turn away from sin, turn toward God and walk in His ways.
“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out.” – Acts 3:19
Believe
Trust in Jesus Christ and what He has accomplished for you.
“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.” – Acts 16:31
Receive
Receive God’s grace and forgiveness through faith in Christ.
“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” – John 1:12
Follow
Begin a life of obedience, growing in Christ and walking with Him.
“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” – Luke 9:23
“Repent and believe the good news!” – Mark 1:15
Come to Christ
The Gospel is not simply a message to understand. It is an invitation to come to Jesus Christ.
If you recognise your need for God, you can turn to Him today. You do not need to make yourself worthy before coming to Christ. You do not need to have everything figured out. Come as you are, repent of your sin, place your trust in Jesus, and surrender your life to Him.
His grace is greater than your past, His mercy is greater than your failures, and His invitation is still open.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
Coming to Christ is not about becoming perfect before you approach Him. It is about trusting the One who can forgive, restore, transform, and lead you. Jesus does not call us to a temporary religious experience; He calls us into a new life with Him.
Prayer of Surrender
Heavenly Father,
I come before You recognising that I need You. I confess that I have sinned and turned away from You. I cannot save myself through my own goodness or works. Thank You for sending Jesus Christ, Your Son, who died for my sins and rose again.
I place my trust in Jesus. Forgive me, cleanse me, and give me a new heart. I surrender my life to You. Help me to turn away from sin, follow Christ, learn Your Word, and walk with You each day. Teach me to love You, obey You, and live for Your glory. Thank You for Your grace and mercy.
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
The Journey Continues
Coming to Christ is not the end of the story. It is the beginning of a new life with Him.
As followers of Jesus, we are called to grow in faith, learn His Word, remain close to Him, and allow His Spirit to transform the way we live. We are called to follow Christ not only on the days when faith feels easy, but every day of our lives.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit, apart from me you can do nothing.” – John 15:5
The Christian life is a journey of following Jesus. We learn to trust Him, obey His Word, love others, serve faithfully, and grow in holiness. We will stumble along the way, but Christ does not abandon His people. His grace continues to lead us, His Word continues to teach us, and His Spirit continues to transform us.
