Day 2 — The Authority of Christ

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.”

A flock is only as secure as the shepherd who leads it.

A shepherd’s responsibility is not based on position alone.

It is based on ability, character, and authority.

The sheep trust the shepherd because the shepherd knows the way, protects them from danger, and leads them toward safety.

In the same way, Jesus Christ is not merely a teacher, prophet, or moral example.

He is the Shepherd King.

He possesses all authority.

Everything in heaven and earth is under His rule.

The foundation of our faith is not simply that Jesus loves us.

It is that Jesus is Lord.

Jesus did not receive authority because people recognised Him.

His authority belongs to Him because He is the Son of God.

John declares: (John 1:1)

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Jesus existed before creation.

He is not a created being.

He is the Creator.

All authority belongs to Him because all things were created through Him.

Scripture teaches: (John 1:3)

“Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.”

The One who created creation has authority over creation.

Jesus demonstrated this authority:

He calmed storms.

He healed the sick.

He cast out demons.

He raised the dead.

Nature obeyed His voice because creation recognises its Creator.

The greatest problem of humanity is not simply external circumstances.

It is sin separating people from God.

Jesus demonstrated His authority by forgiving sins.

When He healed the paralytic, He said: (Matthew 9:6)

“The Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.”

Only God can forgive sins.

Christ came not only to teach people how to live.

He came to restore people back to God.

The ministry of Jesus revealed His victory over the kingdom of darkness.

John writes: (1 John 3:8)

“The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.”

The Shepherd protects His flock.

The enemy may attack.

Temptation may come.

Fear may rise.

But Christ has greater authority.

The darkness cannot overcome the light.

The greatest evidence of Christ’s authority is His resurrection.

Jesus declared: (John 11:25)

“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me will live, even though they die.”

Death could not hold Him.

The grave could not defeat Him.

The resurrection revealed that Jesus is truly King.

If Jesus has all authority, then He deserves complete surrender.

A shepherd cannot lead sheep who refuse to follow.

Jesus said: (Luke 9:23)

“Whoever wants to be My disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow Me.”

Following Christ means:

My will submits to His will.

My plans submit to His purpose.

My life belongs to Him.

Many people recognise Jesus.

But true discipleship requires obedience.

Jesus said: (Luke 6:46)

“Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?”

Calling Jesus Lord means accepting His authority.

The Shepherd’s voice is not merely information.

It is direction.

Because Jesus has all authority, believers do not walk through life alone.

Paul writes: (Romans 8:31)

“If God is for us, who can be against us?”

Our confidence is not found in our own strength.

It is found in the authority of our King.

The Shepherd who leads us has power greater than every obstacle.

Authority without love can become oppression.

But Christ’s authority is perfect because His character is perfect.

Jesus said: (John 10:11)

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”

The King who has all power is the same King who gave His life for His people.

His authority is not used to destroy His flock.

It is used to save, protect, and guide them.

When we understand Christ’s authority, our response should be:

Worship — because He is worthy.

Trust — because He is faithful.

Obedience — because He is Lord.

Surrender — because He knows the way.

The Shepherd King does not ask us to follow blindly.

He asks us to follow the One who has all power and perfect love.

The Shepherd has all authority.

The Shepherd created us.

The Shepherd redeemed us.

The Shepherd leads us.

The Shepherd protects us.

Before we can follow His mission, we must first recognise His throne.

Jesus Christ is not only the Shepherd who cares for His flock.

He is the King who rules over all.

  • Am I allowing the Shepherd King to lead my decisions?
