Day 6 – Walking in Integrity
When Your Private Life and Public Faithfulness Become One
Main Scripture
Proverbs 10:9
“Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.”
The Shepherd Calls His Sheep to Walk in Integrity
Integrity is one of the clearest marks of a life that belongs to Christ.
It is not simply about telling the truth.
It is about living truthfully.
Integrity means that our words, our actions, and our character agree with one another.
A person of integrity is not one person in public and another in private.
They are the same person when standing before a crowd and when sitting alone where no one else can see.
In a world where compromise is often accepted and honesty is sometimes viewed as weakness, God calls His people to live differently.
He calls us to walk in integrity.
Integrity matters because God is not only interested in what we do.
He is concerned with who we are becoming.
The Shepherd cares about the hidden places of our lives.
He cares about our thoughts.
He cares about our motives.
He cares about our choices when nobody else is watching.
And He calls His sheep to walk faithfully before Him.
Integrity Begins in the Heart
Integrity is not something we put on for others to see.
It begins within.
The Bible repeatedly teaches that God looks beyond outward appearances and examines the heart.
Before our actions change, our hearts must be transformed.
A leader may appear successful on the outside while quietly compromising on the inside.
But nothing is hidden from God.
He knows our thoughts, our motives, and our desires.
Walking in integrity begins by allowing the Lord to search our hearts and shape us according to His truth.
David prayed:
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.”
Psalm 139:23
That is the prayer of a person who desires to walk in integrity.
Integrity does not mean pretending that we have nothing wrong within us.
It means being willing to allow God to reveal what is wrong and then respond with repentance and obedience.
Before our actions change, our hearts must continually be surrendered to God.
The Shepherd does not merely want to improve our behaviour.
He wants to transform our hearts.
Joseph: A Man of Integrity
Joseph provides one of Scripture’s clearest examples of integrity.
When Joseph was serving in Potiphar’s household, Potiphar’s wife attempted to persuade him to sin.
Joseph could have given in secretly.
He could have reasoned that nobody would know.
He could have chosen immediate pleasure over faithfulness to God.
Instead, he said:
“How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?”
Genesis 39:9
Joseph understood something essential about integrity.
Integrity is not determined by whether people are watching.
It is determined by whether we remember that God is always present.
Joseph’s decision to remain faithful cost him dearly.
He was falsely accused and imprisoned.
Yet God remained with Joseph through his suffering and, in His perfect timing, raised him to a position of great responsibility.
Integrity may sometimes bring temporary hardship, but it always honours the Lord.
Christ: The Perfect Example of Integrity
Jesus Christ is the perfect example of integrity.
His words and His life were completely consistent.
Every word He spoke was true.
Every promise He made was trustworthy.
Every action reflected the holiness and character of the Father.
Jesus did not teach one standard and live by another.
He did not demand from others what He was unwilling to embody Himself.
His life was completely aligned with the Father’s will.
Jesus remained faithful even when obedience became costly.
Even those who opposed Him could not establish genuine fault against Him.
At His trial, Pilate declared:
“I find no basis for a charge against him.”
John 19:4
Jesus remained faithful even when obedience became costly.
He did not compromise when He was tempted.
He did not change His message when people rejected Him.
He did not abandon the Father’s will when suffering came.
And ultimately, He remained obedient all the way to the cross.
For us, Christ is not merely an example to admire.
He is our Lord and Saviour.
We are saved by His grace, not by achieving His level of perfect righteousness.
Yet because we belong to Him, His character becomes the pattern we seek to reflect.
The closer we walk with Christ, the more our lives should increasingly reflect His truthfulness, faithfulness, humility, purity, and obedience.
Integrity Builds Trust
Leadership cannot flourish without trust.
People may admire talent for a season.
They may respect knowledge.
But lasting influence is built upon trust.
Trust grows when people know that our words are dependable, our actions are honest, and our motives are sincere.
This kind of trust cannot be manufactured.
It is built slowly through faithful obedience to God.
Integrity does not guarantee an easy life.
But it enables us to live honestly before the Lord with a conscience that is not deliberately compromised.
And there is no greater security than walking faithfully with Him.
Integrity Means Refusing Compromise
Integrity is often tested in small decisions long before it is tested in major ones.
A person rarely abandons integrity in one dramatic moment without first making smaller compromises.
It may begin with a convenient half-truth.
A hidden habit.
A dishonest decision.
A private conversation.
A secret resentment.
A compromise that seems insignificant.
But small compromises can gradually reshape the heart.
That is why we must learn to recognise compromise early.
We should ask:
Does this honour Christ?
Does this reflect God’s truth?
Would I be comfortable bringing this decision into the light?
Am I obeying God, or am I simply finding a way to justify what I already want?
Integrity chooses obedience before compromise becomes a pattern.
This does not mean that Christians never fail.
We will make mistakes.
We will sometimes fall short.
But integrity means that we do not make peace with sin.
When God exposes something within us, we bring it into the light.
We confess it.
We repent.
We receive His grace.
And we continue walking with Him.
Integrity in the Hidden Places
The true test of integrity is often found in places nobody else can see.
How do we behave when nobody can reward us?
How do we speak about people who are not present?
How do we handle money when nobody is checking?
How do we respond when we are treated unfairly?
What do we watch when we are alone?
What do we do with temptation when there are no immediate consequences?
How do we treat our family when we are tired?
What happens inside our hearts when someone else receives the recognition we wanted?
These hidden decisions matter.
The Shepherd is concerned with the person we are becoming when nobody is watching.
Jesus taught:
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.”
Luke 16:10
Faithfulness in small things prepares us for greater responsibility.
But we should remember that God is not always preparing us for a larger platform.
He is preparing us to be faithful with whatever He has already entrusted to us.
The Shepherd forms His people in the hidden places before their character is ever visible to others.
The Invitation
Integrity is the foundation of trustworthy leadership.
It is not built through impressive achievements but through daily faithfulness.
Joseph remained faithful when no one seemed to notice.
Jesus remained faithful in every circumstance.
Their examples remind us that God values the hidden life as much as the visible one.
May we choose to walk in integrity each day, knowing that our greatest desire is not merely to gain the approval of people but to hear our Lord say,
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Reflect & Examine
Take a moment to examine your life honestly.
Ask yourself:
- Do my private choices reflect my public testimony?
- Am I the same person when nobody is watching as I am when others are watching?
- Am I honest even when dishonesty would benefit me?
- Do my words consistently agree with my actions?
- How do I respond when doing the right thing costs me something?
- Is there something in my life that I need to bring into the light before God today?
Today’s Step
Today, ask God to search your heart.
Begin with Psalm 139:23–24:
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Remember:
You do not need to become impressive.
You need to become faithful.
Walk honestly before the Shepherd today.
Let your private life and public testimony increasingly become one.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being perfectly holy, faithful, and true. We ask You to search our hearts and reveal anything that does not honour You. Help us to walk in integrity, speaking truth, living honestly, and remaining faithful even when no one else is watching.
Strengthen us to resist compromise and to trust You in every circumstance. May our lives reflect the character of Jesus Christ so that others may see Your truth through us. Build within us hearts that are sincere, trustworthy, and devoted to Your glory. In Jesus name,
Amen.
